Meet the Brown Family
Danny, Lauren, Roy & Ben Brown- the family behind Bow & Arrow Ranch Venue. Long before Bow & Arrow became a place for weddings, retreats, and gatherings, we were Bow & Arrow Cattle.
Danny grew up on a cattle ranch in Tehama County and has spent his life in cattle and ranching and I grew up in Humboldt County on a small ranch. Together, we’ve spent years finding our path building a ranching life for our family… without owning any property ourselves.
We’ve leased ground. We’ve hauled cattle across counties. We’ve lived in a camp trailer (two times), remodeled our last home after bedtime, raised babies alongside cattle, and prayed over decisions that felt a whole lot bigger than us.
Then we took the biggest leap of faith yet.
We purchased this ranch in Whitmore, California- just 30 miles east of Redding- with pasture, mountain ground, an 8-acre private lake, a lodge, ranch house, and motel. It was more than we ever imagined we could call ours, and we scratched and clawed our way to get here.
And somehow, the name we had carried with us all along suddenly fit in a whole new way.
Bow & Arrow.
A name that started with our cattle operation now feels like it was meant for this chapter too. Maybe it was a coincidence. Maybe some things just have a funny way of working out exactly as they’re supposed to. Because today, Bow & Arrow is where our two worlds come together cattle & events, ranching & weddings, working ground & gathering people.
So much has changed since we took that leap- and in some ways, not much has changed at all.
We’re still loading the hay truck with two little boys alongside us. There are still cattle to check, fences to fix and horses to saddle. Only now, in between ranch chores, you’ll find me cleaning the lodge and getting guest rooms ready with Roy & Ben right there beside me- wiping windows, pushing a broom and “helping” in all the ways little boys do.
Is it always easy having Roy & Ben in tow? Definitely not. But they’re watching their dad and mom work cattle and fix what needs fixing. They’re watching us prep landscaping for upcoming events, tidy rooms, make beds and welcome people through the doors. They’re learning no job is beneath you when you’re building something you believe in.
And someday, we hope they’ll understand that they weren’t just growing up while Dad and Mom build Bow & Arrow.
They were part of building it.
We’re still very much in the middle of the story ourselves. There are projects to finish, things to improve and plenty of days with our sleeves rolled up bringing another piece of this ranch back to life. We didn’t purchase a perfectly finished venue. We purchased a ranch we believed in, and we’re pouring ourselves into it one project, one pasture and one gathering at a time.
That’s part of what makes sharing it so special.
When you come to Bow & Arrow, you’re coming to our home and our ranch- a place our family has worked incredibly hard for and a place we’re proud to welcome you into.
It’s a working cattle ranch.
But it’s also becoming a place to gather.
A place for weddings.
A place for retreats.
A place to sit around a table, celebrate something worth celebrating.
This ranch is our home. And now, we get to share it with you.
